The mountain road Transfagarasan in Romania was covered in snow, after the second consecutive day of heavy snowfall. Road workers intervened with two machines and scattered five tons of anti-skid material to clear the roadway, reports IPN.
According to the images published by the Regional Directorate of Roads and Bridges (DRDP) Brasov, special machinery intervened on the road covered by a consistent layer of snow. The first snowfall of this cold season settled during the night from Monday to Tuesday, when the layer of snow was thin, and the intervention of the machines was not necessary.
The representatives of DRDP Brasov specify that the weather will remain unchanged in the following days, and traffic is under winter conditions. Drivers intending to traverse the Transfagarasan are advised to inform themselves about traffic conditions beforehand and not to set off if their vehicles are not equipped with winter tires.
Transfagarasan, the road that crosses the Fagaras Mountains from Arges County to Sibiu County, is only open to traffic for a few months each year. Road traffic is generally allowed from June or July until October or November, depending on weather conditions. Also, on the alpine section, at over 1,200 meters altitude between Piscu Negru and Balea Waterfall, there are traffic restrictions even during the summer, access being allowed only between 07:00 AM and 09:00 PM.
