The citizens of the Republic of Moldova could be called to the polls on September 28, 2025, according to a draft resolution registered by several PAS MPs. The announcement was made by Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, who stressed that the elections in the fall are “defining for the country’s history”, IPN reports.
“Even if you have heard it many times over the years, these elections are really crucial,” Grosu said. According to the speaker of the legislature, voters will have to decide whether Moldova will continue on its European path and modernization of the state or give in to external pressures that could disrupt democratic processes.
The head of the legislature warned that Moldova is at a crossroads. “Either we throw it all away, destroy what we have achieved on the European road, or move forward on the path of development and peace”, said Igor Grosu.
At stake is the sovereignty of the country and the protection of democracy. “Our objective is to make sure that we are not turned back from the road to peace and development, that the country does not come back under the control of Kremlin’s indications”, the speaker added.
The draft resolution on setting the date for the elections was included on the agenda of the April 17 sitting of Parliament. The initiative comes as the mandate of the current legislature expires on 11 July and the law stipulates that elections can be held no later than three months after this date.
