As the holidays approach, more and more people are buying fireworks, and law enforcement warns that they can become dangerous if misused or purchased from unauthorized places. To prevent incidents, police in Chisinau have stepped up checks in stores, markets, and other commercial spaces, reports IPN.
According to the General Inspectorate of Police, in one day, 26 reports were drawn up for the illegal sale of pyrotechnic articles, and products worth 60,000 lei were confiscated.
The unauthorized sale of fireworks is punishable by fines between 1,500 and 3,000 lei. The police urge citizens to be cautious, to only purchase from reliable sources, and to abide by the rules.
In recent years, authorities have tightened the rules for the use of pyrotechnic articles, after an increasing number of accidents were caused by firecrackers and fireworks during the holiday season. In Moldova, firecrackers and firecracker batteries are prohibited, and fireworks can be used under strict rules. These should not be launched between 10:00 PM and 07:00 AM, except for national holidays established by law.
