Dozens of women and men participated in the Feminist March, organized in Chisinau against violence, discrimination, and gender inequality, reports IPN.
The participants marched through the main streets of the capital, carrying placards and chanting slogans in front of several public institutions, including the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the General Prosecutor’s Office, the Chisinau City Hall, the Government, the Parliament, the Presidency, and the Embassy of the Russian Federation. Each stop lasted a few minutes, during which the activists called for more effective measures for women’s protection.
The event took place under the slogan “The state is known in times of need: Women in safety. Justice in court!”. The organizers emphasized that the purpose of the march is to draw attention to violence against women and how state institutions react in such cases.
The protesters have demanded more protection for women, investments in violence prevention, and guaranteeing access to justice. Additionally, activists are calling for the gradual introduction of sexual education as a basic subject in schools, with a curriculum that includes healthy relationships, reproductive health, and abuse prevention.
The Feminist March in Chisinau has reached its 12th edition this year.
International Women’s Day, officially marked since the 20th century, originates from the movements for women’s rights. Proposed in 1910 at the Socialist Women’s Conference in Copenhagen, the celebration was officially recognized by the United Nations in the ’70s and celebrates the role of women in family and society.
