A high-performance equipment, donated by the Embassy of the Slovak Republic, will replace the work of ten specialists involved in the monitoring and collection of forestry data. Until now, this information was gathered and analyzed manually, but the Field-Map equipment will facilitate the inventory of forests in electronic format, reports IPN.
The equipment with which the Forest Research and Management Institute has been equipped allows for the rapid and accurate collection of data regarding the volume of timber mass, the forested area, the health status of the trees, and natural regeneration.
At the same time, technology will enhance the monitoring of reforestation work, by tracking the way seedlings are taking root, identifying areas that require additional interventions, and assessing the quality of silvicultural work, states a press release from the Ministry of Environment.
Minister Gheorghe Hajder emphasized that this equipment provides a clearer picture of the forest condition and will help decision-makers plan reforestation interventions and actions more efficiently.
