Experts from Chisinau point out issues in the operation of vehicle registration points in the Transnistrian region, citing faulty scheduling, limited access, and lack of information in Romanian, reports IPN.
The subject was discussed at an online meeting of the working groups for the development of auto transport and road infrastructure, with the participation of specialists from both banks of the Dniester.
According to experts from Chisinau, the procedure for providing services at these points is regulated by national legislation, and compliance with it is mandatory. At the same time, they note a growing interest in standard license plates. At the end of last year, about 24 thousand plates were issued for residents of the left bank of the Dniester, compared to approximately 14 thousand neutral ones.
From September 1, 2018, owners of cars from the Transnistrian region can obtain neutral registration plates (consisting of three letters and three numbers), for international traffic, issued upon request to individuals, through the offices in Tiraspol and Rabnita.
During the discussions, Chisinau insisted on the elimination of the vignette and other barriers, considered artificial, which affect the free movement of citizens between the two banks of the Dniester.
Furthermore, experts have drawn attention to the degradation of the road infrastructure, especially of some bridges over the Dniester, and have pointed out the need for urgent interventions, including at the Criuleni-Dubasari bridge, to prevent potential risks.
Chisinau has expressed its willingness to contribute to the rehabilitation of roads in the Transnistrian region, provided that all restrictions on free movement are eliminated.
