The leader of the PACE Party, Gheorghe Cavcaliuc, is still on the list of persons sanctioned by the European Union. The announcement was made in Chișinău by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, during a press conference, as reported by IPN.
“The person (Gheorghe Cavcaliuc, ed. note) has not been removed from the sanctions list. The list remains in force, no changes have been made,” stated the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas.
On April 24th, Gheorghe Cavcaliuc announced, in a video on social media, that the European Union did not extend sanctions against him.
In May 2023, the European Union imposed sanctions against Gheorghe Cavcaliuc, as well as against Ilan Shor, Marina Tauber, Vladimir Plahotniuc and Russian businessman Igor Ceaika. The sanctions against Cavcaliuc were extended by one year on April 29, 2024.
