Cars equipped with the eCall system will be able to automatically alert the 112 Service in the event of a serious road accident, without the intervention of the driver or passengers. The government approved on Wednesday the necessary changes for the integration of this system into the national emergency infrastructure, reports IPN.

The eCall system is connected to the vehicle’s sensors and automatically activates at the moment of a strong impact. The call can also be initiated manually, by pressing a button installed on board. Once activated, the system establishes an audio connection with the 112 operators and automatically transmits information about the vehicle and the location of the accident.

According to the project, the 112 Service will receive, process, and transmit this data to the ambulance, police, and rescuers for organizing the intervention. Calls generated through eCall will be treated with the same priority as any other call to the unique emergency number 112.

At the same time, manufacturers and importers of vehicles equipped with the eCall system will have the obligation to inform buyers about its operation, compatibility, and any potential limitations.

Authorities assert that the implementation of the system will contribute to the faster localization of victims and the reduction of response time for intervention teams. The measure is part of the process of aligning the Republic of Moldova with European standards in the field of road safety and emergency services. The law will come into effect on May 13, 2027.

The former president of the Constitutional Court, Alexandru Tanase, stated that the changes regarding the competences of the Gagauz autonomy in organizing elections do not represent an infringement on its status. “Gagauzia does not have enemies in Moldova,” Tănase declared in the show “Teritoria Svobodi” with Lilia Burakovski, reports IPN.

Alexandru Tanase also stated that Comrat is being “brazenly manipulated”. “I am very sorry that, after 30 years, other political parties are not normally represented there, and pro-Moscow oriented politicians control the situation in the autonomy”, clarified the former president of the Constitutional Court.

In his opinion, this is a backlog of Chisinau, for which the country will pay a high price due to the ignorance of the situation in the region.

He mentioned that, most likely, legislative changes will be made, according to which Chisinau will designate the electoral bodies itself that will organize the elections in Gagauzia – on the date set by the Popular Assembly.

“Gagauzia has no enemy in the Republic of Moldova. There is no politician – not even the most marginal – who would say that autonomy should be abolished or that certain competencies should be reduced,” concluded the former president of the Constitutional Court.
