Capital city lawyer, sentenced to prison for influence trafficking

A lawyer from Chisinau has been convicted for influence trafficking in several episodes, receiving a sentence of 6 years in prison. Half of the sentence was suspended, with a probation period of two years. The court also ordered the deprivation of the right to practice as a lawyer for five years, as well as the imposition of a fine of 20 thousand lei, reports IPN.

The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office maintains that, between 2012 and 2018, the lawyer demanded and received large sums of money to influence judicial decisions. In November 2012, she allegedly requested 11 thousand euros to intervene in the case of a suspect in custody, and in 2017 and 2018 she asked for 6 thousand euros and 5 thousand euros, respectively, to influence verdicts in counterfeit money cases and appeals to the Chisinau Court of Appeal.

Also, between 2016 and 2017, the defendant received additional sums, including 5,500 euros for a pimping case and 2,000 euros for the rejection of a prosecutor’s appeal. In total, the lawyer received hundreds of thousands of euros to influence various cases, including in the field of robbery, hooliganism, and corruption.

The court also ordered the special confiscation from the defendant’s account of the monetary means amounting to 5 thousand dollars, seized during the arrest and body search and recognized as corpus delicti, as well as the equivalent in lei of the monetary means resulting from the crime, amounting to approximately 637 thousand lei.

Users from several countries reported connection issues with Facebook on Sunday. The number of reports rapidly increased during the morning, suggesting a possible widespread malfunction, according to the Downdetector platform, quoted by IPN.

According to reports in the international press, users are experiencing difficulties with authentication, loading the news feed, and using some features of the social network. It is not yet clear whether other services of the Meta company are also affected.

In Moldova, there are issues with browser connectivity, but access through the application is possible. Until this time, Meta company has not provided an explanation for the cause of the incident nor a timeline for its resolution. In the absence of an official confirmation, the exact extent of the disruption remains unclear.

The Downdetector platform monitors online service interruptions and centralizes user reports and other data regarding their functionality. A sudden increase in notifications usually indicates the existence of a technical problem.
