A 44-year-old man was fined with 500,000 lei and ordered to return to the state 4.8 million lei, after the court found him guilty of three episodes of tax evasion, electricity theft, and escape from arrest. The man was apprehended by investigators after seven years of being outside the country, trying to avoid punishment. Through the verdict, the court also sentenced him to two years of suspended imprisonment, which means that if he does not commit any other crimes during this period, he will not be incarcerated, as reported by IPN.
The Prosecutor’s Office of Chisinau Municipality specifies that, between 2015 and 2017, without the necessary authorizations, the man set up a clandestine business of producing kvass and selling products such as fruits, vegetables, and “fast food” in several mobile trade units in Chisinau. The income obtained was not reflected in the accounting documents, and the taxes were not paid.
Additionally, the man was accused of unauthorized connection and for several years, using electric energy without paying for it, with an estimated damage of 180 lei.
In 2017, when he was detained for tax evasion and escorted for questioning, he escaped from the prosecutor’s office. He was put under search, and the police only identified him after seven years, when he returned to the Republic of Moldova. He stated that he fled to the Transnistrian region, then to Ukraine. In court, the man admitted his guilt and requested for the case to be examined in a simplified procedure.
