Former Ukrainian Parliament Speaker Andrei Parubii was shot dead in the city of Lviv. The information was confirmed by Lviv Region Governor Maxim Kozitkii, IPN reports.
According to law enforcement, the attacker opened fire on Andrei Parubii and fled the scene. Parubii died before the ambulance arrived. Law enforcement agencies are establishing all the circumstances.
The Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine announced that a special operation had been launched in Lviv to identify the attacker.
Shortly after the tragedy, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Supreme Rada Chairman Ruslan Stefanciuk, and Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko sent messages of condolence and gratitude for his contribution to Ukraine’s progress.
Andrei Parubii has been a member of the Verkhovna Rada for three terms, starting in 2007. He was the speaker of the eighth parliament until 2019.
Parubii was an active participant in both the 2004 Orange Revolution and the 2014 Revolution of Dignity in Ukraine. He is known for his staunch pro-Ukrainian, anti-Russian stance and his consistent support for Ukraine’s integration into the European Union and NATO.
