A trolleybus on route no. 8 crashed into a pedestrian in the Botanica sector of the capital this afternoon. It happened on Decebal Boulevard and the impact was fatal, IPN reports.
The General Inspectorate of Police states that it has been preliminarily established that a trolleybus, driven by a 23-year-old man, hit a woman who was jaywalking. The 63-year-old victim died on the spot.
According to the Chisinau Electric Transport Authority, the pedestrian was crossing the street irregularly, in a hurry, according to preliminary data. The driver of the trolleybus has no record of any misconduct or violations at work.
A criminal case has been opened to establish all the circumstances.
Two years ago, a 12-year-old girl was fatally hit by a trolleybus on Mircea cel Batran Boulevard in the Ciocana sector. The child was crossing the street according to video footage that captured the moment. The woman driving the trolleybus was sentenced to four years in prison, two of which suspended.
