A landslide occurred in a limestone quarry on the island of Java, Indonesia, causing dozens of casualties. The announcement was made by the regional disaster agency, while search efforts continue to find survivors under the rubble, reports IPN.
The incident took place in the city of Cirebon, in West Java, causing the death of at least 13 people, while 12 others were injured. The casualty toll is still being updated, according to local media, Reuters reports.
The governor of West Java province, Dedi Mulyadi, has ordered the closure of the mine following the accident, which occurred around 9:30 local time.
In July last year, at least 23 people died and another 35 were reported missing following a landslide that affected an isolated village near a gold mine on the island of Sulawesi. And in 2023, eight workers died after being trapped in a gold mine in Central Java province.
