Filming has begun for the feature film “The Winemaker’s Daughter”, a Moldovan-Polish co-production that will be made simultaneously in the Republic of Moldova and Poland. The project received funding from the National Center of Cinematography in the Republic of Moldova, reports IPN.

The film is directed by Polish filmmaker Michał Szcześniak, based on a script written by Mihai Manescu, and the cinematography is by Igor Vlas. At the same time, the production is made by Realitatea Film in co-production with Poland, bringing together filmmakers and actors from both countries.

The cast includes Ana Dumitrașcu, Valeriu Andriuta, Rafał Maćkowiak, Marta Ojrzyńska, Constantin Ipati, Igor Chistol, Andrei Porubin, Angela Ciobanu, Victoria Raileanu, Silviu Boinceanu, Diana Decuseara, and Mihai Zubcu.

“The Winemaker’s Daughter” presents the story of Catinca, a woman professionally established in Western Europe, who returns to the Republic of Moldova following the unexpected death of her father. Once back home, she discovers that the family vineyard is threatened by a corrupt scheme, where external interests intersect with local complicity. Thus, the character finds herself in the situation of having to choose between the life she has built abroad and the fight for her family’s heritage and the community she comes from.

The film aims to portray the present-day Republic of Moldova through the story of a family of winemakers. The rural life, the tradition of wine, the relationship between family and land, as well as the atmosphere of the Moldovan vineyards in the autumn season will be part of the visual universe of the film.
