Approximately 17% of the citizens from UTA Gagauzia do not consider themselves part of the society and state of the Republic of Moldova. The figures appear in a study presented by the Promo-LEX Association, reports IPN.
According to the research, interest in politics is relatively high: about 58% of respondents declare themselves interested in the political events in Gagauzia, 60% – in those at the national level, and approximately 63% – in international ones.
Regarding the perception of the country’s development direction, the majority believe that things are going in the wrong direction both in UTA Gagauzia and at the national level – 71.9%, while only a minority perceive the direction as being good.
44% of respondents believe that the elections for the People’s Assembly and the Governor should be organized by the Central Electoral Council of Gagauzia in conjunction with the Central Electoral Commission, while 43.9% argue that the vote should be organized exclusively by the Central Electoral Council of Gagauzia.
The study “Perception of the socio-political situation, elections, and institutional relations in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia” was conducted by ATES Research Group during the period of March 14-18, 2026, on a representative sample of 410 respondents from 20 urban and rural localities in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia and has a margin of error of ±4%. It was developed within the project “Democracy in Action: Strengthening Electoral Integrity, Political Accountability, and Civic Participation”, implemented by the Promo-LEX Association, with the support of the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Government of Sweden.
