At least 16 people, including students and teachers, were injured in an armed attack committed on Tuesday by a 19-year-old at a high school in the province of Sanliurfa, Turkey. Governor Hasan Sildak stated that the attacker refused to surrender and subsequently committed suicide, while the police were trying to detain him, reports IPN.
The young man, a former student of the institution, used a hunting rifle and fired randomly, in the schoolyard and then inside the building, Turkish authorities announced. He had no criminal record.
The Turkish Ministry of Interior noted that among the injured are 10 students, four teachers, a police officer, and a school canteen employee. The victims were transported to the local hospital, but 5 of them were transferred to a regional hospital due to severe injuries.
