The materials regarding the fire that occurred on May 16, which destroyed the attic of a residential building in the city of Durlești, have been submitted to the relevant authorities for examination and intervention, in accordance with legal competencies. The actions taken by the authorities following the fire were discussed on Friday during a working meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea and decision-makers from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development and the National Technical Inspection Inspectorate, as reported by IPN.

During the meeting, the results of the conducted inspections were highlighted, which revealed a series of major non-conformities at all stages of construction – starting with violations of urban planning rules during the issuance of permits and ending with improperly executed construction works.

At the same time, the necessity of intensifying national inspections for identifying illegal constructions, particularly unauthorized attics and additional floors, was discussed.

Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea mentioned that the fire in Durlești highlights the consequences of tolerating unauthorized constructions.

“We will strengthen the control capacity and take firm action wherever regulations are ignored. The safety of people must come first, above any commercial interest or abuse of procedure,” emphasized the Deputy Prime Minister.

According to the experts of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, the cause of the fire on Tudor Vladimirescu street in Durlești was the failure to comply with fire safety regulations during open flame work. The flames destroyed approximately 1500 square meters of the roof and the apartments located underneath it. Sixteen people required medical care.

Following the fire, the building was left without water and electricity. Several families had to move out. Some sought refuge with relatives, while others accepted the authorities’ offer and were temporarily housed in dormitories of educational institutions. In the first stage, the authorities provided affected families with vouchers ranging from 500 to 2000 lei for essential products. Later on, a one-time allowance of 10,000 lei was also granted, which can be collected from post offices until June 30th.

From the Government’s Intervention Fund, the amount of 1.2 million lei was allocated for the construction of a temporary roof. In addition, 55.8 thousand lei were allocated for the technical expertise of the attic.

A new session of the EcoVoucher Program, funded by the European Union, begins on Saturday, July 18 and will run until August 2. During this period, approximately 825 households in the Republic of Moldova will be able to receive vouchers worth 6 thousand lei for the purchase of energy-efficient appliances, reports IPN.

The National Center for Sustainable Energy mentions that vouchers can be used for the purchase of refrigerators and washing machines. The program aims to reduce energy consumption in homes and replace old appliances, which consume more electricity.

In this edition, households where minors, people over 63 years old, or people with severe disabilities live are eligible. The authorities specify that the measure aims to reduce energy costs and improve the living conditions of the beneficiaries.

Since the launch of the program, over 42,500 households have replaced their old appliances with more energy-efficient ones, benefiting from funding of up to 70% of the cost of a new device. According to data presented by CNED, the annual energy savings achieved by beneficiaries exceed 37 million lei, and over 300 tons of used refrigerators and washing machines have been collected for recycling within the program.

The EcoVoucher program is developed by the Government with the support of the EU and is implemented by CNED, within the project “Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energies for Moldova”. The project is implemented by GIZ in collaboration with the Government of the Republic of Moldova and is funded by the German Government, with co-financing from the EU, Norway, and Denmark. The current session is funded by the EU.
