Three employees of the Botanica Police Inspectorate have been sent to trial for abuse of office. They are accused of appropriating 3,000 dollars and over 10,000 euros from the money found on a detained person, reports IPN.
According to the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, during the preventive body search of the detained person, the police officers found 25,300 dollars and 14,300 euros. The money was not officially registered immediately after it was found, nor was it sealed for safekeeping. Before the money was officially registered, the three police officers allegedly appropriated 3,000 dollars and 10,370 euros.
The three police officers are also targeted in another case, alongside three other employees of the Botanica IP, being suspected of passive and active corruption. In that case, they would have systematically demanded and received between 3,000 and 10,000 dollars, from people involved in drug use and trafficking.
PA mentions that the case regarding abuse of service has been sent to the Chisinau Court, Buiucani headquarters. If found guilty, the three risk a fine ranging from 57,500 to 92,500 lei or up to six years of imprisonment. In both cases, they also risk being deprived of the right to hold certain positions or to carry out a certain activity for a period of two to five years.
