Brussels will soon propose roadmaps for the candidate countries that are making the most progress in the accession process to the European Union. The announcement was made by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, in her annual speech on the state of the European Union, reports IPN.
“We only need to look at Ukraine and Moldova, at the Western Balkans, at all these countries close to our Union. And because their future lies within our Union, we will soon propose roadmaps for the candidate countries that have made the most progress,” Ursula von der Leyen stated.
The Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov, welcomed the announcement, describing it as an important political signal for candidate countries progressing in the accession process. “It is an important political signal, showing that the efforts of countries implementing reforms are recognized. The European Commission has repeatedly appreciated the progress of the Republic of Moldova, and we hope that our country will be among those that will receive such a roadmap,” said Cristina Gherasimov.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, for the Republic of Moldova, such a roadmap would bring more clarity and predictability and would allow the authorities to better focus their efforts and resources on achieving the goal of EU accession.
