The White House is considering inviting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Alaska, where US President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, IPN reports. “It’s under discussion,” a senior US official told CBS News.
The US official, as well as other sources, said that no visit has been set yet and it’s not clear if Zelenskyy will end up in Alaska for talks.
The US president announced on Friday that he will meet with Putin on August 15 in Alaska as part of efforts to negotiate a ceasefire in Ukraine.
On Saturday, representatives of the European Commission and several European leaders welcomed President Donald Trump’s efforts to stop the war and stressed the need to provide security guarantees to Ukraine. The leader in Kiev appreciated the joint statement issued by them, highlighting the importance of protecting both Ukrainian and European interests. Regarding the meeting in Alaska, Volodimir Zelenski stated that any solution proposed without Ukraine’s participation is against peace and cannot be implemented.
