The Supervisory Board of TRM has taken note of Vlad Turcanu’s resignation

With five “pro” votes and two “against”, the Supervisory Council of the public company Teleradio-Moldova took note of the resignation of the general director Vlad Turcanu. The meeting was marked by tense debates and divergent opinions among the members of the Council, reports IPN.

Loretta Handrabura, the CS secretary, voted against, but she had a remark. “I reiterate for the minutes, I believe we needed to take a break to clarify some decisions. Not that I would disagree to acknowledge Mr. Turcanu’s decision,” said the Supervisory Council’s secretary. In turn, Irina Mațenco, who also voted against, appreciated the activity of the managerial team led by Vlad Turcanu.

During the discussions, several members of the Council pleaded for the postponement of the resignation examination. Aurelian Danila asked Vlad Turcanu to withdraw his request, stating that the situation is “tragic”. “When we think about why a general manager resigns, it makes me sick. I am the oldest among you and I have seen various things. What is happening now is tragic. We need to discuss why we have reached this situation. I too am outraged by the jury’s scores at Eurovision, but that doesn’t mean that the general manager had to resign,” he declared.

Maria Sleahtitchi, a member of the CS, stated that “the jury takes responsibility for how it voted, not the management of the institution”. In turn, Valentina Iusuphodjaev argued that it is too early to make a final decision, invoking the seven-day period in which the resignation can be withdrawn. “These seven days have not elapsed and, therefore, we cannot make a decision,” she affirmed.

Vlad Turcanu stated that he has no intention of withdrawing his application and that he will exercise his duties on an interim basis until a successor is appointed. “I don’t have much to add. It’s a technical matter for you to take note of. I am obliged to fulfill my role on an interim basis, to ensure the functionality of the departments and the institution. This interim period should not take too much time,” he said. He also stated that he does not intend to participate in a new competition for the position of general director.

On the other hand, Corneliu Popovici criticized the procrastination of the subject and argued that the director clearly expressed his intention to leave. “What’s stopping us from making the decision today? He said he won’t change his mind,” he stated.

After adjusting the wording of the decision with reference to the legal term in which the application can be withdrawn, the Council members supported the initiative. The position will be declared vacant after the expiration of the legal term, and the Council members are to convene in a new meeting to establish the conditions for organizing and conducting the competition for the position of general director of Teleradio-Moldova.

According to the regulations, the position is filled through a public competition organized by the Supervisory Council. The procedure includes preselection of files and interviewing candidates, and subsequently, the selected candidacy is forwarded to the Parliament for approval. The term of the general director is seven years and cannot be renewed.

Vlad Turcanu, who was appointed in December 2021, announced his resignation on Monday during a press conference, in the context of the scandal that erupted after the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 final. Controversies arose after the score given by the Moldovan jurors to Romania, which generated reactions and criticism in the public space.

A new session of the EcoVoucher Program, funded by the European Union, begins on Saturday, July 18 and will run until August 2. During this period, approximately 825 households in the Republic of Moldova will be able to receive vouchers worth 6 thousand lei for the purchase of energy-efficient appliances, reports IPN.

The National Center for Sustainable Energy mentions that vouchers can be used for the purchase of refrigerators and washing machines. The program aims to reduce energy consumption in homes and replace old appliances, which consume more electricity.

In this edition, households where minors, people over 63 years old, or people with severe disabilities live are eligible. The authorities specify that the measure aims to reduce energy costs and improve the living conditions of the beneficiaries.

Since the launch of the program, over 42,500 households have replaced their old appliances with more energy-efficient ones, benefiting from funding of up to 70% of the cost of a new device. According to data presented by CNED, the annual energy savings achieved by beneficiaries exceed 37 million lei, and over 300 tons of used refrigerators and washing machines have been collected for recycling within the program.

The EcoVoucher program is developed by the Government with the support of the EU and is implemented by CNED, within the project “Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energies for Moldova”. The project is implemented by GIZ in collaboration with the Government of the Republic of Moldova and is funded by the German Government, with co-financing from the EU, Norway, and Denmark. The current session is funded by the EU.
