The Republic of Moldova contributes 4 million euros to the increase of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development’s capital. The government approved today a document that makes possible the payment of this contribution, adding EBRD to a previous decision that provides for the allocation of the necessary financial resources for the country’s participation in the increase of the authorized capital of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the International Financial Corporation, reports IPN.
The Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization specifies, in a press release, that the amount of 4 million euros will be paid in stages, in five annual installments. For the current year, the financial resources are already provided for in the State Budget Law, and the amounts for the following years will be gradually planned within the medium-term budget framework 2026-2029.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development was founded in 1990 and has 75 member countries. The Republic of Moldova joined the EBRD in 1992. According to the authorities, the country’s participation in the capital increase of this banking institution is essential for maintaining the current voting weight and strengthening influence within these organizations.
EBRD is one of the main partners of the Republic of Moldova, supporting the country’s development through investments in infrastructure, energy efficiency, transport, agriculture, environment and other essential sectors. Currently, in the Republic of Moldova, there are 69 projects funded by the EBRD, with a cumulative value of 1.3 billion euros.
