The Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Valeriu Chiveri, explained that the economic model based on free energy resources in the Transnistrian region is not sustainable and energy-related emergencies are not new. The official clarified that the problem is of a technical nature, related to the change of the payment agent and not a political one, reports IPN.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, such energy crises can recur every few months, as the current model is not sustainable, and the payment agent can be changed depending on the sanctions regime imposed by the European Union. At the same time, the level of gas for the population, intended for social and household needs, is ensured, adds Valeriu Chiveri.

The proposal of the Government of the Republic of Moldova, supported by European partners, for a transparent model of gas delivery management was not accepted by all involved parties, the dignitary mentioned. Valeriu Chiveri emphasized that the 60 million euro aid offered by the European Union remains available and can be used in case of emergency, with the agreement of local authorities.

The so-called leader of Tiraspol, Vadim Krasnoselski, has proposed that a state of economic emergency be declared in the Transnistrian region. The reason given is “the slowdown in settlement operations within the European Union.” The priority will be to ensure heating for the population. Gas supplies to industry will be limited. The final decision has not been approved. The meeting of the so-called Supreme Soviet is yet to be scheduled.
