The residents of the Cosnita commune in the Dubasari district have spoken out against the use of outlying lands for the exploitation of mineral resources. According to the preliminary results presented by the Central Electoral Commission, 95.69% of the participants in the consultative referendum held on Sunday voted for the prohibition of changing the purpose of these lands, reports IPN.
Thus, according to the CEC data, 1,466 voters voted for the prohibition of changing the purpose of lands within the administrative boundaries of the commune for the purpose of exploiting mineral resources near the villages of Coșnița and Pohrebea. 66 voters voted against, which represents 4.31% of the total participants in the referendum.
The referendum was held at the initiative of the Communal Council.
According to electoral legislation, a decision is considered adopted if it is supported by the majority of referendum participants. At the same time, the vote is declared valid if at least a quarter of the voters registered in the electoral lists show up at the polls, a threshold that was exceeded in the Cosnita commune, where the turnout constituted 30%.
