The state of emergency that was declared on February 24, 2022 and was extended for several times was prolonged again. Under a draft decision that was adopted by Parliament on Thursday, the state of emergency is extended by another 60 days as from February 4. The MPs of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists criticized the Government’s approach and left the assembly hall before the draft decision started to be discussed, IPN reports.

Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița stated in Parliament that it has been almost a year since Ukraine started this inhuman war. Its consequences continue affecting the Republic of Moldova. The state of emergency enabled the authorities to take swift action whenever it was necessary.

The MPs of the Shor Party announced that they would not take part in the sitting, but MP Marina Tauber entered the assembly hall when Premier Gavrilița was presenting the report and, leaving a pair of handcuffs on the rostrum, left the hall.

At the suggestion of the Parliament’s commission on national security, defense and public order, the Government’s draft decision on the prolongation of the state of emergency was supplemented with provisions that allow holding the Bashkan election in ATU Gagauzia.

Unaffiliated MP Gaik Vartanen was the only MP from outside the parliamentary majority who remained in the hall. He criticized the Government’s proposal, saying that this government is already called the “emergency government”. According to him, the authorities should renounce such a practice and should accelerate reforms.

The draft decision was adopted by the votes of 60 MPs of the Party of Action and Solidarity. Gaik Vartanean voted against.
