Following the launch of chemotherapy services at the Orhei District Hospital this week, starting Monday, patients from the Cahul district will be able to undergo treatment close to home, without having to travel to Chisinau, reports IPN.

Thus, Cahul District Hospital will become the fifth chemotherapy treatment center opened since August, when the order for the decentralization of this service was signed.

“In a short time, we managed to organize and open five such centers, with prepared oncologists – in the district hospitals of Floresti, Sangerei, Briceni, Orhei, and Cahul. The most important thing is to be with people and as close to them as possible when they face health problems,” wrote the acting Minister of Health, Ala Nemerenco, on Facebook on Sunday.

The model applied for the decentralization of oncological services is similar to the one previously implemented for stroke treatment, when regional medical centers are equipped with modern equipment and specialized personnel. In the case of oncological patients, chemotherapy sessions will be performed as day hospitalizations, and individuals will be monitored for several hours after the administration of the treatment.

In the Republic of Moldova, oncological diseases represent the second leading cause of mortality, after cardiovascular conditions. Diagnosed at an early stage, they can be treated with a higher chance of recovery.

The Republic of Moldova and India aim to strengthen cooperation in various fields such as trade, investment, renewable energy, and education. The announcement was made by President Maia Sandu and the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, following the official meeting in Chisinau, reports IPN.

Maia Sandu stated that the discussions focused on deepening bilateral relations and achieving concrete results for the citizens of both states. “We want this relationship to bring concrete results for our people in trade, investment, energy, education and health. We wish for more and more Moldovan agri-food products to reach the Indian market”, affirmed the head of state.

The head of state also mentioned collaboration in the field of education, specifying that approximately 1,400 Indian students are currently studying at universities in the Republic of Moldova, most of them at USMF. Moreover, negotiations regarding a new cooperation agreement in higher education have been concluded, and it is due to be signed.

In turn, the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, described the visit as a “historic moment” in the relations between the two states and affirmed that it reflects the strengthening of mutual trust. According to the Indian official, the two delegations agreed to intensify cooperation. Droupadi Murmu also announced that India will double the number of training courses and scholarships offered to professionals from the Republic of Moldova.

During the discussions, India invited the Republic of Moldova to join the Coalition for Infrastructure Resilience and the Global Alliance for Biofuel, international initiatives promoted by New Delhi.

Droupadi Murmu’s visit is the first official visit to the Republic of Moldova by an Indian president since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1992.

The “Autosalubritate” Directorate has received six new skip-type containers, intended for waste collection and transportation. Some of them have already been allocated to business agents in Chisinau, and the rest will be distributed according to needs, reports IPN.

The new containers each have a capacity of 20 cubic meters and are transported by trucks equipped with a hook loading system. According to municipal authorities, these will contribute to a more efficient collection and disposal of waste, and to the improvement of services provided by the municipal sanitation operator. So far, one container has been allocated to the Central Market, one has reached the Port Mall, and two have been distributed to the “Bucuria” factory.

According to the “Autosalubritate” Directorate, the six containers are part of a contract worth approximately 1.6 million euros for the supply of modern equipment for waste collection and transportation. As part of this contract, eight specialized vehicles for waste collection, three hook trucks for transporting skip-type containers, four specialized vehicles for rear-loading waste collection with a capacity of 10 cubic meters, and four specialized vehicles with a capacity of 16 cubic meters are also to be delivered.

The acquisition is made within the framework of the municipal project “Solid Waste Chisinau”, which has an estimated budget of about 26 million euros and is funded by the Chisinau City Hall, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the European Investment Bank, and the E5P Fund. The contract for the delivery of the equipment was signed in August 2025 and is expected to be executed by August 2026.
