The snow and low temperatures created dangerous traffic conditions in a number of districts in the north of the country. The M-5 road in Edineț district, close to Cupcini town, is now impassible due to the ice that formed on the road. The authorities are expected to intervene, IPN reports.
The National Police announced that in the districts of Ocnița, Edineț, Briceni and Dondușeni, it has snowed heavily since the morning and the roads are slippery. Respectively, motorists are urged to drive with caution and adapt their speed to the weather conditions.
Pedestrians are advised to cross the street only through specially designed places and to make sure that they are visible in traffic because the risk of accidents increases in snowy weather.
Road crews intervened on the affected routes with 14 special equipment and 26 workers to spread anti-skid material and ensure optimal traffic conditions, the State Road Administration reports.
According to the State Weather Service, the weather will remain cold during the next 24 hours. A yellow frost code was issued, valid until tonight. At night and in the morning, temperatures are expected to drop to -5 degrees Celsius.
