Forensic laboratory for police training equipped with support from UNDP and U.S. Government

A multifunctional forensic laboratory for the practical training of police officers was inaugurated at “Ștefan cel Mare” Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The training unit was renovated and equipped with support from the UNDP and the U.S. Government, IPN reports.

According to a press release of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, future police officers, as well as current employees of the internal affairs system, will have much better conditions to develop their skills of on-site research and forensic examination.

The laboratory includes specialized spaces for practical activities: two multifunctional rooms, a model of an on-call unit, rooms for special questioning and presentation for recognition, graphoscopy, traceology, dactyloscopy, chemistry laboratories, as well as spaces for first aid and IT activities.

Minister of Internal Affairs Daniela Misail-Nichitin considers that the inauguration of the multifunctional forensic laboratory is an important step towards ensuring quality education within the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

„Here students will learn how to turn theory into action and vocation into career, will be trained to respond professionally to real challenges in the field”, said the minister.

Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy to the Republic of Moldova Daniela DiPierro said that the donation of forensic equipment further increased the laboratory’s capacity to support investigations. The developed skills will help Moldova’s police forces for many years to come.

Daniela Gasparikova, UNDP Resident Representative in the Republic of Moldova, noted that this training unit, renovated and equipped with the generous support of the U.S. Government, will be used annually by more than 5,000 students and police officers, both for initial and ongoing training.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the students will use the equipment to learn how to conduct a detailed forensic investigation – from taking and examining biological samples, fingerprints, traces left by hard objects, to examining digital devices and forged documents.
