The bloc led by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is projected to win 53 seats in the next parliament, according to preliminary results after more than 85% of the votes cast in the parliamentary elections had been counted. Meanwhile, the bloc led by former army chief Gadi Eisenkot is projected to secure 48 seats. A majority in the Knesset requires 61 seats, IPN reports.

According to Israel’s Central Elections Committee, in addition to the two blocs, the Arab parties Ra’am and the Joint List are projected to secure an unprecedented 19 seats in parliament. Although no party has yet secured the 61 seats needed for a majority, Netanyahu and Eisenkot have each expressed their readiness to form the next government.

The final results are due to be published on November 4, after approximately 600,000 postal ballots, mostly cast by military personnel, have been counted. These account for around 10% of the total votes.

A container ship bound for Romania’s Port of Constanta caught fire after being struck by three maritime drones 39 kilometres off the Bulgarian coast. According to BNT News, the vessel sustained severe damage and developed a heavy list, while all 18 crew members evacuated in life rafts, IPN reports.

The vessel, sailing under the Liberian flag, was near Cape Kaliakra. It had departed from the Israeli port of Haifa carrying around 700 containers. Bulgarian authorities said that all crew members had been safely rescued in a joint operation involving the emergency services, coast guard, navy and air force.

The attack took place during a meeting in Sofia of the defence ministers of Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey focused on Black Sea security. At the close of the meeting, the three officials adopted a joint declaration calling for an immediate end to attacks on merchant vessels, which have intensified recently and resulted in casualties. According to the declaration, these incidents mark a dangerous escalation of tensions and pose serious risks to maritime safety. The three Black Sea coastal states and NATO allies reaffirmed their shared responsibility to take the necessary measures to ensure security and freedom of navigation in the region.

A new agricultural mechanics teaching laboratory has opened at the Gheorghe Raducan Agro-Industrial College in Ocnita district. According to the authorities, around 300 students at the college will benefit from learning facilities that meet European standards, IPN reports.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry stated that the laboratory was built and equipped for practical training with financial support from the European Investment Bank through the government’s “Fruit Garden of Moldova” project.

The new building, with a total floor area of approximately 407 square metres, houses three practical training spaces: “Agricultural Mechanics”, “Agricultural Machinery Maintenance and Repair”, and “Welding and Forging”. The investment totalled around €570,000. In a press release, MAIA notes that the new facilities will help develop practical skills and train the specialists needed for a modern agricultural sector.

Earlier, as part of the same project, the Microbiology Laboratory was refurbished and equipped. Laboratory equipment, IT hardware and furniture were also purchased.
