Presidency warns about new fakes launched on Telegram

“The Republic of Moldova is a neutral country and will remain so. All stories about alleged agreements on sending troops are blatant lies,” said the President’s spokesman, Igor Zaharov, on Saturday, warning of new falsehoods launched on the Telegram platform, IPN reports.

According to Zaharov, the purpose of this disinformation is to scare people and sow mistrust.

“Please let us be careful. (…) Let us not be fooled—our truth and unity are our best defense,” said the President’s spokesperson.

Attempts to spread misinformation online have intensified in the final stretch of the election campaign for Sunday’s parliamentary elections. In the last few days alone, the authorities have debunked several falsehoods related to the alleged closure of polling stations for voters on the left bank of the Nistru River, unauthorized collection of information from medical institutions, and the fact that voters who opted for postal voting allegedly received ballots missing some electoral candidates.
