Over 31 thousand students attend groups with a schedule in the schools of Chisinau municipality. For the current year, the municipal budget provides 82 million lei for their funding, and, if necessary, the authorities specify that additional funds will be allocated for the maintenance of the groups, reports IPN.
The deputy head of the General Directorate of Education, Youth and Sport, Andrei Pavaloi, mentioned, during a presentation, that, in January, there were 1,109 extended program groups active, attended by 31,279 students. Of these, 1,065 had a duration of three hours, and 44 groups had a duration of six hours. The number of students in each group varies between 25 and 30.
According to Andrei Pavaloi, the number of extended program groups has significantly increased in recent years. If in the academic year 2021-2022 there were 723 groups in 75 institutions, in the academic year 2025-2026 over 1,100 groups were registered in 113 institutions.
Among the institutions that have the most extended program groups are the “Grigore Vieru” Primary School in the Ciocana sector, the “Hyperion” Theoretical High School in the city of Durlesti, the “George Calinescu” Theoretical High School in the Rascani sector, and the Theoretical High School with Arts Profile “Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici” in the Buiucani sector.
The extended program groups are free of charge and fully funded by the budget of the Chisinau City Hall.
