Border police officers detected three cases of fish poaching in Cahul. Four men have been caught fishing illegally in the Prut river, during the peak of the prohibition period, IPN reports.
In one of the cases two fishermen were found with over 100 kilograms of fish. Both were penalized.
And border guards found a suspicious boat and a fishing net in the Prut protection strip. The two male suspects did not justify their presence in the area.
In the third case, five monofilament nets, each about 500 meters long, were found in the riverbed. The police are investigating to identify the people involved.
The men identified by the police were fined 600 lei for violating the border zone regime. The fish and fishing nets were forwarded to the Cahul Environmental Protection Inspectorate for investigation and appropriate legal measures.
Between April 1 and June 14 is the closed season in Moldova and it is strictly forbidden to fish in natural aquatic fish habitats, as well as the use of aquatic means of transport by individuals.
