An educational mediator will facilitate the integration of Roma children into schools. The Ministry of Education and Research, in partnership with UNICEF Moldova, presented a pilot project to institute this position. The first specialists are expected to work in Otaci and Soroca, which are localities with a low rate of inclusion of Roma children in schools, IPN reports.
The educational mediator will ensure communication between the school, the family and the community, will monitor the school attendance and participation in lessons of Roma students, thus contributing to the prevention of dropouts and school absenteeism and to combating bullying.
The educational mediator will also contribute to the active involvement of parents in their children’s education.
Present at the project launch, the head of the Interethnic Relations Policy Service of the Ministry of Education Ivan Duminica stressed that “only through real cooperation between the authorities, civil society, local communities and international partners, can we create an equitable and inclusive educational environment for all children”.
The launch took place as part of the Roma History and Culture Week held during April 1-8.
