The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, has condemned the violation of the airspace of the Republic of Moldova by Russian drones, emphasizing that this is unacceptable and endangers civil air traffic, reports IPN.
“The European Union is investing 20 million euros this year in the air defense of the Republic of Moldova, to support the strengthening of the country’s security. The sky of the Republic of Moldova cannot become a victim of Russia’s war,” Kallas wrote in a post on the X network.
Two drones, identified by Ukrainian authorities as being of the “Gherbera” type, illegally flew over the territory of Moldova on Friday evening, November 28, leading to the closure of the national airspace for an hour and ten minutes. Two aircraft in the process of landing at Chisinau International Airport were diverted, and another aircraft, prepared for takeoff, was kept on the ground until the danger had passed. The competent authorities announced on Saturday that no objects, debris, or elements posing a danger to the population were identified.
President Maia Sandu emphasized, in a post on the X network, that Russian drones have once again violated the airspace of the Republic of Moldova “on their way to killing civilians”. “This is not the language of diplomacy, nor of a country that claims to negotiate peace,” Maia Sandu wrote.
