Increased intervention level at Vatra: temporary homes engulfed in flames

Firefighters have intervened at an increased level to extinguish a fire that broke out on Sunday morning in a temporary home of an asphalt production company in the city of Vatra, municipality of Chisinau, reports IPN.

The call to the Emergency Service 112 was received at 07:36 AM, and several rescue and firefighter teams were dispatched to the scene.

According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, the flames engulfed container-type huts, where employees were temporarily housed. Before the arrival of the intervention teams, 15 people had independently left the area affected by the fire.

Eight units of equipment were mobilized to extinguish the flames, with a team of 30 rescuers and firefighters. The fire was localized at 08:02 AM, and after approximately an hour and a half, the fire was completely extinguished. No casualties were reported.

Meteorologists have issued a yellow heatwave warning for this weekend. In most parts of the country, the maximum temperatures will reach +34 degrees Celsius, reports IPN.

The warning is valid for the center, south, and east of the country. Several districts in the north are also under the yellow code. The northernmost districts of the country such as Briceni, Ocnita, Edinet, Drochia, Soroca, Glodeni, Rascani, and Donduseni – are not affected by the warning.

According to the Authority for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring, the warning can be updated depending on the evolution of weather phenomena.

During periods of heatwave, authorities recommend people to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours, to consume enough fluids, and to pay increased attention to children, the elderly, and people with chronic conditions.
