The deputies observed a moment of silence in memory of the victims of the terrorist attacks in the United States of America on September 11, 2001. The President of the Parliament, Igor Grosu, noted that, even though 25 years have passed since the tragedy, the pain remains alive for thousands of families, reports IPN.

“Almost 3 thousand people left their homes that peaceful morning and never returned. They were victims of terrorist attacks”, stated the head of the legislature at Thursday’s plenary session.

According to him, the attacks have shown how fragile peace is, and in the context of the Russian Federation’s war against Ukraine, this lesson is even more relevant. Igor Grosu emphasized that security and peace are values that must be defended day by day and conveyed the solidarity of the Republic of Moldova with the American people.

The September 11, 2001 attacks resulted in 2,993 deaths, including the 19 terrorists, and over 6,000 injured. That morning, four passenger planes were hijacked: two hit the World Trade Center towers in New York, one struck the Pentagon building, and the fourth crashed in Pennsylvania after the passengers and crew members attempted to regain control.
