Bulgaria consistently supports the European integration of the Republic of Moldova and welcomes the progress it has made. The statement was made by the Bulgarian Foreign Minister, Velislava Petrova, during a meeting with her Moldovan counterpart, Mihai Popsoi, who is visiting Sofia, reports IPN.

Velislava Petrova highlighted the close relations between the two countries, as well as active cooperation in various fields. “We will continue to support the Republic of Moldova in its European journey and work together to strengthen the resilience of Moldovan institutions,” the Bulgarian official further stated.

In turn, Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, mentioned that European integration means a broad process of transformation and modernization of the country, as well as improving the standard of living of its citizens. “Bulgaria’s experience and the lessons it has accumulated on its path to the European Union are very valuable to us,” he stated.

The two officials also discussed the economic and trade relations between the two countries. They addressed the organization of the 10th meeting of the Intergovernmental Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation, as well as the possibilities for new investments and joint projects.

Another topic of discussion was the role of the Bulgarian community in the Republic of Moldova in strengthening the relations between the two states. Mihai Popsoi emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting the linguistic and cultural identity of the community and reaffirmed the commitment of the authorities in Chisinau in this regard.

The two ministers also discussed security in the Black Sea region, the consequences of Russia’s war against Ukraine. They reiterated the importance of cooperation in combating hybrid threats and disinformation.
