The government has approved the resignation of the head of the National Probation Inspectorate

The government has approved the resignation of the director of the National Probation Inspectorate, Viorel Sochirca. The decision was made based on his request, following the tragic case in Magdacesti, Criuleni district, where a man under electronic surveillance killed his wife, reports IPN.

According to the executive decision, the interim position will be ensured by Gheorghe Aghenie, the head of the Electronic Monitoring Directorate.

The resignation comes after the tragedy at Magdacesti, which revealed deficiencies in the monitoring and protection system for victims of violence. The Minister of Justice, Vladislav Cojuhari, acknowledged that the electronic bracelet did not ensure the victim’s protection, and the authorities did not intervene effectively to prevent the tragedy.

In the same meeting, the Government also approved the resignation request of the director of “Moldsilva”, Nicolae Munteanu, appointed to the position at the end of January 2026. The interim will be ensured by the deputy director of the institution, Iulian Mamai.

The recusal request of Judge Veaceslav Cernalev, submitted by the former head of the Legal Department of the Parliament, Ion Creanga, was rejected. The magistrate will continue to examine the case in which the former official is accused of treason. The information was confirmed for IPN by the communication officer of the General Prosecutor’s Office, Violina Moraru.

Ion Creanga requested the magistrate’s recusal at the previous hearing, accusing him of a subjective attitude. The former civil servant claimed that the judge did not allow him to present his requests and limited his ability to fully exercise his right to defense.

The case is examined under general procedure. At the previous meeting, Prosecutor Dumitru Stefirta presented evidence of the accusations regarding the alleged meetings and discussions between Ion Creanga and the Russian citizen Dmitri Chelov, as well as the information and documents that the former official would have allegedly transmitted to him.

Next, the court is set to hear the prosecution’s witnesses, among whom are Parliament employees, public figures and other individuals. The next session is scheduled for September 11.

The former official is accused of treason and conspiracy against the state. According to prosecutors, during the period 2023-2024, he allegedly maintained correspondence and had clandestine meetings with an assistant to the military attaché of the Russian Federation Embassy in Chisinau. The former head of the Legal Department of the Parliament was detained in July 2024, when he allegedly received 500 dollars from a Russian official. Ion Creanga pleads not guilty.
