The airspace of the Republic of Moldova, temporarily closed after the overflight of a Shahed drone

The airspace of the Republic of Moldova was temporarily closed on Tuesday, after a Shahed type drone entered the country’s territory unauthorized, coming from the direction of Ukraine. According to the Ministry of Defense, the drone crossed the territory of the Republic of Moldova and exited the country near the locality of Zagarancea, Ungheni district, in the direction of Romania, reports IPN.

The Ministry of Defense specifies that the drone was detected by the National Army’s aerial surveillance systems at 04:20 PM. According to preliminary data, it entered the airspace of the Republic of Moldova from the direction of Slavianorebca, Ukraine, and moved towards Bender, crossing the Transnistrian sector.

At 04:32 PM, the drone was moving in the direction of the city of Chisinau. Four minutes later, it was located in the area of Balanesti, continuing its movement towards Cetireni, Ungheni district. At 04:37 PM, the drone left the airspace of the Republic of Moldova near the locality of Zagarancea, continuing its movement towards Golaesti, Iasi county, Romania.

For the safety of flights, at 04:30 PM, the authorities temporarily closed the airspace in the central area of the country. It was reopened after the drone had left the territory of the Republic of Moldova.



A drone fell on Tuesday in a farmland outside the village of Mihailenii Vechi, Rascani district. According to the General Inspectorate of Police, four fire outbreaks erupted as a result of the impact, reports IPN.

IGP specifies that specialized services are being dispatched to the scene for case documentation and determination of all circumstances. The drone model is yet to be established. According to the Police, no person has been harmed. Authorities are asking citizens to stay away from the area where the drone has fallen.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defense announced that a Shahed type drone had flown over the airspace of the Republic of Moldova, and for the safety of flights, it was temporarily closed. According to the Ministry, the drone crossed the territory of the Republic of Moldova and left the country’s airspace near the locality of Zagarancea, Ungheni district, in the direction of Romania.

Subsequently, the Ministry of Defense clarified that the same drone returned to the airspace of the Republic of Moldova from the direction of Iași. It disappeared from the radar in the area of the village of Cobani and reappeared near the city of Drochia. At 05:14 PM, the drone disappeared again in the area of the village of Sturzovca, and at 05:26 PM, the fall of a device similar to a drone was reported in the outskirts of the village of Mihailenii Vechi.
