Greek company wins tender contest to purchase natural gas

The tender contest to buy natural gas held on September 5 was won by the Greek company DEPA Commercial SA. According to SA Energocom, the quantity of gas will be stored so as cover a significant part of the gas needed by Moldova in winter, IPN reports.

The tender contest was held to choose the company that will supply natural gas in the amount of over 100 mcm / 1 TWh. The purchase will be covered with funds from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which signed a loan agreement with the Government of the Republic of Moldova.

DEPA Commercial SA director Konstantinos Xifaras said the positive result of the tender contest strengthens further the already strong partnership between the two companies and confirms the Greek company’s intention to remain the largest strategic supplier of the Republic of Moldova in Europe, contributing to the security of natural gas supplies and diversification of gas supply sources for the Moldovan gas market.

“We continue strengthening the relationship with DEPA Commercial SA as this helps the Republic of Moldova to improve its energy security and to diversify its energy supply sources,” stated Victor Bînzari, Energocom director.



Meteorologists have issued a yellow heatwave warning for this weekend. In most parts of the country, the maximum temperatures will reach +34 degrees Celsius, reports IPN.

The warning is valid for the center, south, and east of the country. Several districts in the north are also under the yellow code. The northernmost districts of the country such as Briceni, Ocnita, Edinet, Drochia, Soroca, Glodeni, Rascani, and Donduseni – are not affected by the warning.

According to the Authority for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring, the warning can be updated depending on the evolution of weather phenomena.

During periods of heatwave, authorities recommend people to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours, to consume enough fluids, and to pay increased attention to children, the elderly, and people with chronic conditions.
