Grain transit will also be allowed through the Costesti–Stanca border crossing. The decision was agreed during a videoconference between Alexandr Manciu, interim Director General of the National Food Safety Agency, and Alexandru Bociu, President of Romania’s National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority, IPN reports.
ANSA notes that this decision will help diversify transport routes, ease pressure on border crossings, and facilitate regional trade flows. According to the agency, the Romanian authorities have confirmed that they will provide the necessary support to ensure the smooth flow of freight through existing border crossings.
The institution noted that the discussions focused on identifying practical solutions to facilitate the transport and transit of grain across the Moldovan-Romanian border, including shipments from Ukraine passing through the Republic of Moldova.
The Customs Service announced on Monday that the number of trucks waiting at the Sculeni–Sculeni and Leuseni–Albita border crossings is rising, while truck traffic remains heavy at the Giurgiulesti customs post. The agency said additional staff had been deployed to the busy crossings, with teams working around the clock to speed up truck clearance on both sides of the border.
