The former democratic leader Vlad Plahotniuc has been sentenced to 19 years in prison in the “Bank Fraud” case. The decision was pronounced today by the judges of the Chisinau Court, Buiucani headquarters, by cumulative sentences. He was not present at the pronouncement session, reports IPN.

Vlad Plahotniuc was convicted on several counts, including the creation and leadership of a criminal organization, fraud, and money laundering on an exceptionally large scale.

Throughout the process, the former political leader pleaded not guilty and rejected all charges.

The court’s decision can be appealed to the Court of Appeal.

Vlad Plahotniuc was arrested in Greece on July 22, 2025, and extradited to the Republic of Moldova on September 25. Currently, he is in pretrial detention in Penitentiary No. 13 in Chisinau.



Temperatures will drop slightly over the next few days, and the weather will be unsettled, with brief showers and periods of cloudy skies. According to the Meteorological and Environmental Monitoring Authority, daytime temperatures on Wednesday will range from +18 to +23 degrees Celsius.

When contacted by IPN, meteorologist Natalia Gherasim said that the lowest temperatures will be recorded in the south of the country, where temperatures will be 6–8 degrees lower than they are now.

Rain is forecast for July 22 across large areas, and isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible, especially in the south of the country. Starting Thursday, the weather will gradually warm up, with daytime temperatures ranging from +21 to +26 degrees Celsius. At night, temperatures will remain between +12 and +18 degrees Celsius.

Diesel exceeds the threshold of 29 lei per liter. The National Agency for Energy Regulation has increased the maximum reference price by 48 bani. Therefore, on Wednesday, standard diesel will be sold at the pump for 29.01 lei per liter, IPN reports.

At the same time, a liter of gasoline with an octane rating of 95 will cost a maximum of 29.41 lei, an increase of 22 bani.

Recently, oil prices have been constantly increasing amid the intensification of violence in the Middle East and the interruption of supplies through the Strait of Hormuz.

After an increase above the threshold of 90 dollars, the price of Brent oil fell today to 89.73 dollars per barrel, while a barrel of WTI oil reached 83.01 dollars, from almost 85 dollars. Volatility remains high as there is no predictability regarding deliveries and the memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran has been suspended.
