An exhibition of books and photographs illustrating the cultural life and urban transformations of Chisinau during the interwar period was inaugurated at the Parliament. Titled “The Spirit of Interwar Chisinau. Books, People, Places, and Urban Rhythms”, it is organized on the occasion of the European Heritage Days and the marking of 590 years since the city’s first documentary attestation, reports IPN.

The exhibition brings together approximately 100 books and monographs about the history of the capital, including rare volumes, as well as photographs from the period 1918-1940. Among the exhibits is also the map of the city of Chisinau from 1925. The images and publications capture various aspects of the life of Chisinau residents, from education, art, theater and architecture to sports, holidays and the clothing of the era.

At the same time, the book fund of the Parliament Library was supplemented with volumes donated by historian Sergiu Musteata and poet and publicist Alexandru Corduneanu. Among these are the work “Interwar Chisinau: the lights and shadows of an era. History, education, culture and social transformations” and the curriculum of the optional discipline “My Chisinau”.

The exhibition is organized by the Parliament Secretariat in collaboration with the “Bogdan Petriceicu-Hasdeu” Municipal Library, the “Heritage 21” Foundation, and the National Association of Young Historians of Moldova. It will be open to visitors until the end of October.

A man from Balti has been detained by officers of the National Anti-Corruption Center, suspected of influence peddling. He is alleged to have asked for and received 2,150 euros and 1,000 lei from a married couple, to whom he promised to facilitate the obtaining of driving licenses, reports IPN.

CNA mentions that the man allegedly stated he has influence over the employees of the Vehicle Registration and Driver Documentation Department in Balti and that he can facilitate the promotion of theoretical and practical tests for obtaining driving licenses.

Law enforcement officials specify that the spouses filed a complaint with the CNA because the promise was not fulfilled. Subsequently, anti-corruption officers, together with prosecutors, conducted searches at the suspect’s residence and in his car, from where they collected relevant evidence for the criminal case.

Consequently, the man was placed in the institution’s isolation ward, and investigations continue to establish all the circumstances of the case.
