First 11 aspirants for mayoralty of Chisinau applied to be registered

Eleven candidates for mayor general of the municipality of Chisinau went on Tuesday to submit the documents necessary for being registered as election contenders. As there were a number of applicants the same day, Chisinau District Electoral Council No. 1 held a draw and decided the preliminary order on the ballot, IPN reports.

The list of candidates on the ballot is topped by Vasile Costiuc, of the Democracy at Home Party. He is followed by the representative of the Electoral Bloc “Ruslan Codreanu”, ex-acting mayor of Chisinau Ruslan Codreanu.

The third position will be occupied by the candidate of the Party “We Build Europe at Home” Constantin Butucel, the fourth – by the former director of the Agency for Monument Inspection and Restoration Ion Ștefăniță, who is supported by the Movement “Respect Moldova” – a party founded by ex-Democratic MP Eugeniu Nikiforchuk.

The Party of Communists’ candidate Diana Caraman extracted No. 5, while the Party of Action and Soldiery’s candidate, MP Lilian Carp – No. 6.

The seventh spot will be taken by ex-minister of economy and infrastructure Anatol Usatyi, who was put forward by the Party of Development and Consolidation of Moldova, the eighth spot – by the candidate of the European Social Democratic Party Vadim Brînzaniuc, the former head of Buiucani district.

Mihail Bagas, of the Party “League of Cities and Communes” extracted No. 9, Ion Bulgac, of the Coalition for Unity and Wellbeing – No. 10, the Party of Socialists’ candidate MP Adrian Albu – No. 11.

The registration of candidates for the local general elections of November 5 started on Tuesday, September 19. In the upcoming elections, voters are to elect 898 mayors and 11,058 local councilors. The election campaign starts on October 6.



Meteorologists have issued a yellow heatwave warning for this weekend. In most parts of the country, the maximum temperatures will reach +34 degrees Celsius, reports IPN.

The warning is valid for the center, south, and east of the country. Several districts in the north are also under the yellow code. The northernmost districts of the country such as Briceni, Ocnita, Edinet, Drochia, Soroca, Glodeni, Rascani, and Donduseni – are not affected by the warning.

According to the Authority for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring, the warning can be updated depending on the evolution of weather phenomena.

During periods of heatwave, authorities recommend people to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours, to consume enough fluids, and to pay increased attention to children, the elderly, and people with chronic conditions.
