An explosion occurred in an apartment on Albisoara street in the capital, this evening. The blast broke out in a bathroom, on the third floor of a 16-story building. The information was confirmed for IPN by the press officer of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, Liliana Puscasu.

The call to the 112 service was received at 4:43 PM. Six rescue and firefighter teams were dispatched. They evacuated two people from the affected residence – a 16-year-old minor, who was not injured, and a 19-year-old young man, who was immediately hospitalized for medical care.

“The young man was taken over by the medical team for care. According to the initial investigations, he suffered non-essential traumas in the head region, his life being out of any danger”, specified Liliana Puscasu.

The IGSU communicator added that the explosion only damaged the apartment where it occurred and that the residential block is not connected to the gas network. The cause and circumstances of the incident are yet to be determined.

On Saturday, another explosion occurred in Florești, in a residential building. The tragedy resulted in victims and significant damage. A tenant suffered severe burns during the blast and later died in the hospital. The cause of the explosion is believed to be an unauthorized boiler installed in the dwelling.

Meteorologists have issued a yellow heatwave warning for this weekend. In most parts of the country, the maximum temperatures will reach +34 degrees Celsius, reports IPN.

The warning is valid for the center, south, and east of the country. Several districts in the north are also under the yellow code. The northernmost districts of the country such as Briceni, Ocnita, Edinet, Drochia, Soroca, Glodeni, Rascani, and Donduseni – are not affected by the warning.

According to the Authority for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring, the warning can be updated depending on the evolution of weather phenomena.

During periods of heatwave, authorities recommend people to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours, to consume enough fluids, and to pay increased attention to children, the elderly, and people with chronic conditions.
