Dwellers of apartment building situated at 41/1 Eminescu to sue Embassy of Romania

The people living in a block located at 41/1 Mihai Eminescu St, together with the owner of the apartment in which a fire occurred in April, said they will sue the Embassy of Romania in Moldova. The apartment in which the fire happened was rented by a female employee of the Embassy and examinations showed that the fire was caused by a laptop left connected to the power supply. According to the apartment owner, the damage was assessed at €800,000-900,000, but no one wants to assume responsibility.

In a news conference staged at IPN News Agency, Corneliu Chelnakov said that his apartment has been rented by the Embassy of Romania to base its economic section there. As a result of the fire, the apartment was 98% destroyed. The apartments of neighbors were also affected.

“We do not really understand the Embassy’s position. We weren’t given a time limit and we didn’t receive any response. We didn’t see wish to mediate this conflict. We have to start with tomorrow and to sue the Embassy and their section for damages,” stated Corneliu Chelnakov.

According to him, two extrajudicial examinations were carried out and these lasted for 90 days. It was established that the fire was caused by a laptop that was used inappropriately. More exactly, this was left on the bed being connected to the power supply. The firefighters’ examination showed the same cause. “We give them one more chance until tomorrow and hope they will react so that this conflict is settled by amicable ways,” said the apartment owner.

Lawyer Andrei Matsko said they ask the damage caused by fire in that apartment building in central Chisinau to be repaired. They got in touch with the responsible person from the Embassy, but not directly, but through the agency of the secretariat. The communication is impeded this way and after the last call was even ignored.

According to the lawyer, the only chance for this situation to be remedied is for representatives of the Embassy of Romania, of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and of dwellers to sit at a table and consider mutually advantageous solutions.

Meteorologists have issued a yellow heatwave warning for this weekend. In most parts of the country, the maximum temperatures will reach +34 degrees Celsius, reports IPN.

The warning is valid for the center, south, and east of the country. Several districts in the north are also under the yellow code. The northernmost districts of the country such as Briceni, Ocnita, Edinet, Drochia, Soroca, Glodeni, Rascani, and Donduseni – are not affected by the warning.

According to the Authority for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring, the warning can be updated depending on the evolution of weather phenomena.

During periods of heatwave, authorities recommend people to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours, to consume enough fluids, and to pay increased attention to children, the elderly, and people with chronic conditions.
