Deposits in the national currency remained the main form of savings in April as well. According to the National Bank of Moldova, the share of term deposits in lei was about 70% of the total, reports IPN.
In total, banks have attracted new deposits of about 25.8 billion lei, approximately 1.5 billion lei less than in March. Over two-thirds of the total came from the business environment. The BNM mentions that the new sight deposits attracted from the business environment amounted to 13.7 billion lei in national currency, at an average interest rate of about 2.6%, and just over 3.1 billion lei in foreign currency, at an average rate of about 1%.
At the same time, the term deposits of the business environment amounted to 417 million lei in national currency, at a rate of about 4%, and 261 million lei in foreign currency, at a rate of over 2%.
In the case of individuals, new sight deposits amounted to approximately 5.7 billion lei in national currency and 57 million lei in foreign currency. The new term deposits attracted from the population constituted 1.79 billion lei in national currency and 700 million lei in foreign currency.
