The heating systems in about two thousand residential buildings in Chisinau and Balti are set to be modernized. The work involves switching from vertical to horizontal distribution of the heating agent, installing individual heating points and introducing individual metering. The decisions were approved at Wednesday’s executive meeting, reports IPN.

According to the Ministry of Energy, in Chisinau, the works will be carried out within the project known as “Warm House”, with a value of approximately 326 million euros, funded by EBRD. It provides for the installation of 2510 individual heating points and the transition of 1665 blocks to the horizontal distribution of the heating agent. Also, it includes the rehabilitation of primary heating networks, pilot insulation projects, and the construction of two pumping stations.

Following the transition to horizontal distribution, the apartments will have separate heating circuits, which will allow for individual measurement of thermal energy consumption and its adjustment according to the needs of the tenants.

At the same time, in Balti, the works target over 296 residential blocks and are carried out within the second phase of the project to modernize the city’s thermal energy system. Thus, the networks and thermal installations will be replaced and modernized, individual thermal points will be installed, and the common heat distribution systems will be modernized. The project is financed through loans and grants provided by the EBRD.

The Ministry of Energy estimates that modernization could reduce thermal energy consumption by up to 30% and will allow consumers to manage their consumption more efficiently. The works will be declared of public utility of national interest, and the owners will be informed in advance about the planned interventions. Any damages caused during the works will be compensated.
