Applications to run in local general elections can be submitted from Tuesday

Those who want to compete in the local general elections of November 5 can file applications to be registered as from today, September 19. It goes to persons who intend to run in electoral districts of the second level, for mayors of the municipalities of Chisinau and Balti, for councilors in the Chisinau and Balti municipal councils and in district councils, IPN reports.

For the purpose, the political parties and electoral blocs will submit to the district electoral council a written application to register the candidates as election contenders and a set of other documents.

In the case of independent candidates, the same requirements are applied. But a subscription list with a sufficient number of signatures of supporters is also necessary. The independent candidates will go in person to the district electoral council and will present the subscription lists together with the documents required for registration.

The subscription list forms can be asked also from September 19, from the district electoral council of the region in which the person intends to run as an independent candidate.

The list of candidates for councilor is compiled in the Romanian language and is presented to the electoral council on paper and in electronic form by obeying the gender quota of minimum 40% for both genders and according to the formula “minimum four candidates of the same gender per each ten places”.

The schedule for accepting documents for registering applicants as candidates was agreed by each district electoral council. Local general elections will take place in Moldova on November 5. The voters are to elect 898 mayors and 11,058 local councilors, 9,972 of whom will be village (commune) councilors, while 1,086 will be district/municipal councilors. The election campaign starts on October 6.



Meteorologists have issued a yellow heatwave warning for this weekend. In most parts of the country, the maximum temperatures will reach +34 degrees Celsius, reports IPN.

The warning is valid for the center, south, and east of the country. Several districts in the north are also under the yellow code. The northernmost districts of the country such as Briceni, Ocnita, Edinet, Drochia, Soroca, Glodeni, Rascani, and Donduseni – are not affected by the warning.

According to the Authority for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring, the warning can be updated depending on the evolution of weather phenomena.

During periods of heatwave, authorities recommend people to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours, to consume enough fluids, and to pay increased attention to children, the elderly, and people with chronic conditions.
