Image-cleansing move, WatchDog on resignations announced by mayor Ceban

“It is a move to clean the image of people affiliated to the Shor group, before the parliamentary elections, where the MAN party, led by Ion Ceban, positions itself as pro-European”, says WatchDog expert Andrei Rusu, commenting on the mayor’s decision to dismiss his relatives from the enterprises managed by the Chisinau City Hall.

At the same time, the Bloc Together wonders “who put them in this position and how did all their brothers-in-law, godfathers-in-law and in-laws end up in the leadership of public institutions in Chisinau?”, reads a statement issued by the party.

The mayor’s announcement was also commented by former minister Dumitru Alaiba: “After screaming for years in a row about “cousins”, today Ion Ceban announces that he is dismissing some of the relatives employed in the city hall structures, on reasonable suspicions of corruption.”

Former infrastructure minister Andrei Spinu described Ion Ceban’s post as “something out of a pamphlet”: “Unfortunately, reasonable suspicions of corruption, betrayal of national interests and connections with controversial individuals are, first of all, on you, Mr. Mayor, and only then on your relatives and those around you.”

The mayor of the capital, Ion Ceban, announced on social networks that he has ordered the dismissal of the advisor to the general director of the company “Apa-Canal Chisinau”, Ruslan Garbali, who is his godfather. The mayor invoked “reasonable suspicions”, but did not specify what these were.

“I ordered the dismissal of my godfather, Ruslan Garbali, for reasonable suspicion at Apa Canal. Previously my sister’s godmother-in-law and my mother’s brother were dismissed for the same suspicions. The entire management of the Green Spaces enterprise was dismissed for the same suspicions,” said Mayor Ceban.

Shortly after the mayor’s post, the Spatii Verzi Management Association issued a press release stating that the new management of the company was presented by deputy mayors Ilie Ceban and Irina Gutnic. Emilia Braga took over as interim director.
